Activities

Staying in shape comes naturally at the Heritage Golf and Country Club; and surprisingly, golf is just the beginning. All the sporting facilities of a world class golf course are right here and for golfing enthusiasts, nothing compares to the sweeping Jack Nicklaus designed course that forms the striking entrance – complemented by the second Nicklaus inspired course that crosses the Yarra to curl around the foothills. Both courses are supported by the driving range, the practice putting green, the Heritage Retreat and Day Spa, a swimming pool and the tennis courts.

Opportunities for choice and new experiences abound. The magnificent Yarra river provides additional options for walking, canoeing, bird watching, kangaroo spotting, photography, picnics – the possibilities are endless. If COVID 19 taught us anything in Victoria, it’s that golf courses are much more than venues to play golf.

Stroll along the paths in the late afternoon sun; canoe along the Yarra with a trained instructor and choose between the rapids or a relaxing paddle. Mountain bike to the Warrandyte State Park. Picnic or enjoy a stroll through Botanica – our own botanic gardens complete with walking paths, bridges, meandering ponds, native flowers, water lilies, birds and frogs.

A Heritage Golf and Country Club Membership provides the opportunity to live life well, to meet people and enjoy life, to engage with nature, and to appreciate the change of seasons. Whatever stirs your passion, fulfilment aways you at Heritage.

Botanica

Along the eastern edge of the Heritage grounds there is a garden that recalls the romance of another time and place.

Botanica is the original garden of the first Heritage homestead – and its owner, pioneer Captain Arthur Payne.

More than a hundred years ago, the Captain dreamt of an arboretum filled with rare and exotic species. He planted statuesque oaks, richly scented cedars and pencil pines so tall today, that they seem to pierce the heavens. For more than 50 years, he set about filling his great and beautiful garden with the glorious Great Dividing Range as its backdrop.

The Captain’s vision is a priceless bequest to The Heritage. This remarkable legacy and the breath taking beauty of the valley beyond is Botanica’s foundation.

Botanica’s grandeur is inherent in its soaring centenarians, refreshing tranquility and the embracing forms of the Yarra Valley itself. A dozen specimens, exceptional for their age, form and rarity, plus 140 specially chosen trees have been preserved.

A shimmering lake connects the garden to the oxbow meadow, which meanders to the Yarra River below and the Warrandyte State Forest in the background. The garden around the small lake is as sustainable as it is beautiful and the stonework and the steps down to the water create a perfect amphitheatre. The pergolas, arbours, pavilions and stonework add structure and welcome.

Beguiling pathways weave through Botanica, beckoning you to explore and enjoy the leafy cathedral. This is truly a garden; a place to savour and the boundless delights of nature; to lie against a favourite tree and simply watch the clouds go by.

Botanica presents a perfect location for weddings and special events.
